The West Indies Union is a political union and sovereign state located in the Caribbean Sea, composing of the various islands that were former colonies of Great Britain. The West Indies Union is one of the two nations born out of the split of the its predecessor, the West Indies Federation (the other being the Antilles Federation).

The West Indies Union is a political union and sovereign state located in the Caribbean Sea, composing of the various islands that were former colonies of Great Britain. The West Indies Union is one of the two nations born out of the split of the its predecessor, the West Indies Federation (the other being the Antilles Federation).
History
The West Indies Federation
Before the modern West Indies Union came to be, there was the West Indies Federation, which consisted of the following former British colonies:
British Colonies
- British Colony of Barbados
- British Leeward Islands
- British Windward Islands
Former French Colonies (Acquired by Britain)
- Guadeloupe, taken by Britain during the Great Silesian War (1755)
- Saint Martin, St Barthélemy
