Boschland; (Amerikaans: Boschlandt); (Spanish: Botslandia), also known as Botsland and officially the Republic of Boschland; (Amerikaans: Republiek van Boschlandt), (Spanish: República de Botslandia); is a country in Central America. The country is bordered by Mexico to the north, the Caribbean Sea to the northeast, Colombia to the southeast, and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest.

The nation is a result of a series of 19th century Voortrekker expeditions and subsequent settlement of Amerikaners in colonial New Spain.

History

Spanish Colonialism

The region sparsely was inhabited by indigenous peoples before coming under Spanish rule in the 16th century. the area that is now Boschland was called La Costa Rica during Spanish colonial rule and It remained a peripheral colony of the empire until Amerikaner settlement in the early 19th century.

During most of the colonial period, Costa Rica was the southernmost province of the Captaincy General of Guatemala, nominally part of the Viceroyalty of New Spain. The area's distance from the capital of the captaincy in Guatemala, its legal prohibition under Spanish law from trade with its southern neighbor Panama, the lack of a significant indigenous population available for labor under the encomienda system and lack of resources such as gold and silver, made the area into an isolated, sparsely-populated backwater region within the Spanish Empire.

During the period of Voortekker settlement in western North-America, a series of Amerikaner colonies were founded in the region that is now Boschland under a land settlement grant given by the viceroy of New Spain. Between 1805 and 1845 four waves of settlement from New Netherland occurred, mostly spurred by overcrowding, classism and resentment over the political control of NNL patroon elites. These settlers founded the important port city of Voorhaven in 1807 and they mostly settled in the central valley, Pacific-south coast and around Voorhaven.
