The Latium Republic is a nation on the central-eastern coast of the Italian peninsula. The country is mainly flat, with small mountainous areas in the most eastern and southern districts. It's capital is Rome, which is also the largest city on the peninsula.

History

Establishment of the Latium Republic

The region of what is now the Latium Republic was once part of the Papal domains. In 1901, the Central Italian region was hit with one of the worst famines the region has ever seen, called the Latial Famine. This led to many bread revolts in the cities over the course of 1903-1908. The papacy's army was overwhelmed by these revolts. This was exacerbated by Venice supporting some of the revolts in Rome. The coup de grâce was delivered when Venetian Invasion of the Papal Adriatic in 1908, destroying the papacy's army in the process. With a weakened military, Rome succumbed to the revolts. In the same year, the Latium Republic was declared.
