Güman was born at Huydecoper Civic Hospital on 21 June 1913 in the industrial town of Oudendÿk. Her father, Dierk Wierinck, was an ironworker and distant cousin of the Schuyler family of [[New Amsterdam]]. Ava Johanna Engels, her mother, was a housewife and member of the Mon River Ladies' Society. Growing up, Güman's mother encouraged her to associate with prominent women in Ieries Province.
