Dutch (Nederlands, [ˈneːdɝlɑnts]) is a West Germanic language of the Franconian subbranch originating in the Netherlands. It is third most widely spoken Germanic language in the world, after English and Amerikaens, the latter being a daughter language of Dutch. Among the constituent members of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Tauland, the Cape Republic, Accany, and Pinang, the language possesses official status and is used extensively in public society, the government, and the media. It is also one of the official languages of the Organization of Democratic Nations and the North Sea Economic Cooperative Council.
