1859 : A coup is staged by plantation owners/elite refugees who were kicked out from South Tussenland following the latter's independence. This would be called the [Insert name of Coup] of 1859, where they demanded compensation from the Kingdom of the Netherlands for their losses in the South Tussenland independence.(edited)

Perhaps they could also team up with the local elite in the tussenland capital too

They would be successful in taking the capital province, thanks to Tussenland being landlocked now, itd take a while for the royal army of the netherlands to take action. (Altho theres the local military too, we have yet to find out how the revolutionaries could get past/defeat them)(edited)

Spring 1860: Meerenland, predominantly French, hear of this and be like "BRO DID SOMEBODY SAY REVOLUTION??! "

Lol but on a serious note, i think theyd have some grievances with the Dutch rule too. Perhaps they couldve been neglected by the Tussenland colonial government since Day 1, but they still get imposed heavy taxes after Tussenland's loss in the 1850 Dutch-Spanish War. And this is very unepic of the Dutch

A few months later: The Kingdom of the Netherlands started negotiating with NNL (their ally in the 1850 war) to let them pass through, and also help them in retaking the Tussenland capital. NNL was promised the ABC islands in exchange for intervention. And thus it was agreed upon. And just like that, NNL and the K. of the Netherlands now team up to crush the two simultaneous rebellions in Tussenland.(edited)

1861: The two rebellions are crushed (during different months of the year). To pacify all in Tussenland, the Dutch could enact the Tussenland Act of 1861, which basically organizes Tussenland into highly autonomous provinces/nations but under one monarch.

Initially, I think there would only be a few provinces, Meerenland, Irokesenlandt Capital Province and Other Territories in the west (the largest and possibly holds unincorporatedd territory status) with the other territories becoming states in their own right as tussenland expands.

1905 Revolution

wannabee Today at 1:10 AM

So basically, as you may know, there is a large war in 1901-1903 that was fought by New Netherland and Tussenland against Mexico. This was known as the Boer Wars. So this war was largely the plan of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, to reclaim the land they had lost to New Spain during the 1850 Dutch-Spanish War (and to annex some land as well, but this did not fall through). This is still Dutch Tussenland, so the kingdom controls the Tussenland military. The Tussenland military fights against Mexico, but the war was very unpopular among the commonfolk. Meanwhile, needing help, the Kingdom of the Netherlands pressures New Netherland to join in the war (the NNL government at this time is still a patroon government and are essentially monarch bootlickers). Although they win the war, this war was so unpopular that shortly after, a revolution in New Netherland takes place, removing the old government and replacing it with a new, more representative government.. This new government of New Netherland would adopt a policy of "anti-Europeanism" that seeks to get stop European powers from making Amerika into their own little plaything. Tussenland shortly after is influenced by these ideas and the autnomous provinces form a temporary coalition government and draft a new constitution, getting rid of the king and making Tussenland into a parliamentary republic (prime minister as head of legeslative) in 1905, and some small siege happens in the capital building of Tussenland, demanding the royalist government to gtfo and let the new coalition government in. This is known as the American Revolutions (or some other cool arc title), that led to the modern day governments of the Tussenland and New Netherland (Mexico also gets their own republic revolution in the late 1900s-1910s) as an effect of the war so its not just the Amerikaner states that experience political changes. So yeah thats basically the TLDR

Modern-day government

wannabee Today at 1:50 AM

Ok for so the modern government of Tussenland:

I gathered the ideas here and made it into one cohesive thing. Tussenland would be a parliamentary republic

Provincial Government: Tussenland would have a provincial government, that is led by a governor, and has their own legislature made up of X seats. They are both popularly elected.

National Government: The national legislature would be the unicameral National Assembly, and would be composed of like maybe of 500 seats. However, the unique thing about this is that it is based on a party-list system. Meaning: people vote for parties instead of people, and the percentage of votes each party has corresponds to the number of seats they get in the assembly (there are cool formulas/calculators online to do this actually, its pretty cool). The reasoning behind this is so that the national assembly wont be tied to a province, which would be heavily lopsided since Meerenlandt and Irokesenlandt has the majority of the population. And so the national assembly can focus on greater agendas not tied to provinces, like Green party advocating nature, Freedom party advocating for... uh idk, freedom.

The Head of Government:- The head of government is prime minister. He/she would be selected from the pool of governors currently holding office prior to the elections. So basically they need to have at least served 1 term as governor before they can become prime minister. The prime minister is elected by the National Assembly. There would also be the president, popularly elected, but just ceremonial in practice.

Judicial: And the judicial branch will be its own thing, possibly appointed by the prime minister :groovin:

Seats in National Assembly

Basically the people vote for parties instead of people. And their total percentage of the vote would correspond to the amount of seats they get in the lower house That way it wont be tied to provinces Tussenland is gonna be a multi-party system, with a lot of parties for everything.

tulips go barrrrrr Today at 1:53 AM

@wannabee what’s the percentage of a party needs to enter parliament

wannabee Today at 2:02 AM

we could adopt this system

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%27Hondt_method#Example, its a popular method for determining the number of seats each party gets for party-list proportional methods

you can see the example section, its clearer there, but luckily there is a calculator for that :smile~1:

https://user.eng.umd.edu/~yavuz/electioncalcEE.html pretty nifty

but IMO there should be a threshold, maybe if a party gets less than 5% of the vote it wont get counted, but thats getting too technical already :smile~1:

DECIDE HOW MANY SEATS THO.

Abolition of Slavery

wannabee Today at 12:27 AM

Slavery would be ended in Tussenland once the the 1861 Tussenland Act gets enacted (self government)

El BortoToday at 12:27 AM

Yeah the local farmers would definitely be against competition with slaves

wannabee Today at 12:30 AM

but basically the practice is essentially dead in Tuss. right after they lose the southern regions

just not formally abolished

and then they could formally codify it in 1861 , but it is de facto not practiced in Tussenland anymore before that
