Frederick I (German: Friedreich; 1737-1779), known as Fred the Wretched, was the King of the United Kingdom from 1777 to 1779. The first member of the Wittelsbach dynasty to rule from London, he ruled for two years before being poisoned. Prior to his reign, he had been MP for Harwich various times between 1762 and 1773. Frederick had often been involved in numerous social and political scandals in Britain and the Continent, eventually leading to his inopportune death. He was succeeded by his only brother, George I.
