The Dutch Realm (Dutch: Federale Nederlandse Rijk) is a multi-continental political entity over which the monarch of the Netherlands reigns. It consists of three constituents (deelstaaten): the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the only multinational and most powerful constituent; the Union of Zeylan, a territory encompassing the southern Asian island of Ceylon; and New Batavia, a state encompassing northern Australia and nearby islands. Oswaldsland, a piece of Antarctic territory officially recognized in the 1946 treaty, is claimed by the constituents of the Dutch Realm as a united political entity. Proclaimed after the East Indies Crisis in the administrative reforms of 1978, it is seen as a continuation of the Dutch Empire.
Besides the monarch, the Realm's members are governed by the Council of States (Raad der Staten)—also known as the Triumvirate (Driemanschap)—an executive body consisting of representatives from each of the three constituents. Despite this supposed equality, the Kingdom is disproportionately authoritivate due to its advantage in population, industry, GGPI, and political influence. The relationship between these three is sometimes known as one Boulder, two Stones (een kei, twee stenen) for this reason.
