Throughout the early modern period, Amerikaens imported influences from indigenous languages, African languages, Walloon, and Spanish while maintaining contact with the Dutch spoken in [[Netherlands|the Netherlands]]. In 1910, the Amerikaens lexicon began a process of standardisation, mainly in [[New Netherland]] and [[Tussenland]].
