List of British prime ministers
This is a list that encompasses all the heads of government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, known as prime ministers. From 1660 to 1737, prior to the recognition of the position of Prime Minister, the government was led by a series of cabal ministries, with each ministry being led by one-to-three prominent men. During the reign of William V, the 4th Earl of Holderness became the most powerful minister in the British government and is recognized as the first true Prime Minister. In 1922, during the European Economic Crisis, the position of Prime Minister was given official legal recognition after centuries of de facto existence.
