The Associated State of Jerusalem (Arabic: دولة فلسطين النقابية, Ad-Dawlat Filasṭín an-Niqábiat) often simply known as Jerusalem or Palestine, is a country in the Levant region of western Asia. It was initially created as a British endowment during the Congress of Amsterdam in 1939, gaining self-rule in 1961 during the Russo-Persian War. The capital and namesake of the state, Jerusalem, is a major pilgrimage site and a center of regional communications and transportation. Gaza is the State's largest and most populous city internationally renowned for its medical advancements while neighboring Azdud is one of the only freeports in the eastern Mediterranean.
Governed by the Ottomans as the sandschak of Jerusalem for centuries, the area of the modern State was settled by Christian millenarians and Jews during the Augustine Wars. They would be soon followed by waves of European & American immigration encouraged by the United Kingdom. This would foreshadow British occupation of the sandschak during the Great War and independence shortly after in 1961. Today, Jerusalem is a Commonwealth realm and a member of the Organization of Democratic Nations. Its government is one of two alongside the Ottoman State which employ the non-territorial millet system of representation, a system also described as polythedism. Despite these efforts, the country is considered a 'modern plantocracy' due to its remarkable inequality and disproportionate ownership of resources.
