The Hellenic Kingdom (Greek: βασιλεία της Ελλάς, Basileía tis Ellás), commonly known as Hellas or Greece, is a peninsular country located in southeastern Europe. The country borders Albania and Rumelia to the north and shares a maritime boundary with the Ottoman Sultanate in the Aegean Sea. In modernity, the Hellenic nation is a cultural hub with large tourism, transportation, and tobacco industries. Its capital, Athens, is a historic town relatively small in proportion compared to Chandax, Larissa, and Yannena, its more industrial counterparts.
Hellas was ruled by the Ottoman Empire from the mid-14th century to 1940, when it was granted sovereignty as a constitutional kingdom. Soon after independence, it joined the Organization of Democratic Nations on account of its ties to the Cordial League. It suffered the continuous national republican Azalea Revolutions until 1970, when Prince Antonius Nicephorus overthrew his father Theodore of Greece in the Coup of 6 September.
