Arrest: Güman v von Valkenstein (HR 2 Maert 1981, CARNN 1981/1087) was a trial held in New Amsterdam, New Netherland decided by the High Council of New Netherland on 2 March 1981. The High Council ruled on allegations of defamation filed by plaintiff Marieke Güman against defendant George von Valkenstein. Both the plaintiff and defendant recently held the political office of Raedpensionaris of New Netherland.

It was established that during his 1975–1979 administration, von Valkenstein orchestrated a public campaign designed to besmirch the reputation of Güman, her close affiliates, and the broader Gümanist labor movement. As Roman-Dutch law forbids the prosecution of sitting Raedpensionarises and close relatives, Marieke Güman was unable to bring her case forward until after von Valkenstein retired from his office on 28 July 1979.
